Students must meet strict Education Queensland (EQ) criteria to enrol in Hervey Bay Special School.
The main criterion for enrolment into a special school is that the intending student must have a diagnosis of Intellectual Disability (ID).
Parents of students who meet EQ criteria for enrolment processes are advised to contact the school principal and/or the principal education officer student services at the district office.
Parents or carers of prospective students will be invited to a meeting with the principal and/or deputy principal prior to enrolment being confirmed.
At this meeting parents/carers are asked to bring original copies of the following documents:
  • Birth certificate (essential for students enrolling in an EQ school for the first time).
  • Immunisation certificates.
  • Confirmation of diagnosis of intellectual impairment and any additional impairments.
  • Previous school reports.
  • The latest Individual Curriculum Plan (ICP) or equivalent document.
  • Any additional information you feel would be useful for a smooth transition to Hervey Bay Special School.
We will also require you to complete the following forms during the enrolment meeting:
If your child has complex medical issues and you feel it would be useful to have the school nurse present at the initial interview please inform school when you make the appointment and we will do our best to arrange it.
A copy of Hervey Bay Special School’s Parent Information Handbook (PDF. 1.2MB) is also available for your perusal.

For children of compulsory school age, enrolment is subject to the process outlined in Education Queensland’s Procedure: Enrolment in State Primary, Secondary and Special Schools.
