School sports

Each year Hervey Bay Special School runs an interschool House Sports Day. This event will see students represent their sports house (Miller, Cook and Fraser).  The
students participate in a wide variety of athletic events including, long jump, shot put and sprints. Each event is adapted to meet the individual needs of all students insuring participation across the school.

Our sport houses are Cook, Miller and Fraser

Our school is 30 years of age and three of the original staff members, Norma Fraser, Sue Cook and Paul Miller have seen this school change and grow over the years. In honour of their dedication and passion for being foundation members of this fantastic school, the three sporting houses have been named after them. Staff and students have been placed in these three houses and whenever sporting or cultural events are conducted, Fraser, Cook and Miller are honoured. In addition, the annual sports day trophy has been named after the school's longest serving principals, Mr Geoff Davies.

Representative  Sport at Hervey Bay Special School
In 2015 student's represented our school at a Hervey Bay District level for athletics.  Students attended the trials and were then selected in the Wide Bay athletics team.  Students then travelled to Townsville and Brisbane to represent our region.  Again in 2016 students will have this same opportunity.  This year students also participated in cross county and potentially these students can make the Wide Bay team.  We will continue to provide the opportunity for students to trial for cross county and athletics at a representative level.  Students who compete at this level require a Para Deaf Athlete classification.  Many of our students were classified last year.  This classification allows students to compete in representative sports as a Para Deaf Athlete.  This is just the beginning our journey at Hervey Bay Special School and we hope to have students who continue to represent us at a district, regional, state and national levels.
Our Focus, our Goal-"Meeting Individual Needs" of all students
